Auditing CE

FP Canada™ conducts annual audits to uphold the integrity of our certification programs and to support you in maintaining your professional standing. From time to time, CFP® professionals and QAFP® professionals may be selected for an audit, which could include a review of CE requirements. To help make the process simple and stress-free, we encourage you to keep a record of your completed CE activities for three years.

CE audit for maintenance

  • If you’re selected for a random CE audit, you’ll be asked to submit supporting documentation for the CE credits you completed in the year under review. Any CE credits taken through the FP Canada Institute are already verified.
  • Only completed CE that is verified with supporting documentation will be accepted as valid.

2. Leaves of absence

Maternity and parental leave

We know that being able to take time to welcome new children into our lives is important, so we offer a maternity or parental leave CE exemption. Just indicate the dates of your leave during the annual certification renewal, and submit a copy of your child(ren)’s birth certificate or adoption papers.

The CE exemption for maternity and parental leave is one calendar year, but you can request to have the exemption split evenly across two consecutive years.

Medical and disability leave

Sometimes we need to take time away from work to deal with an injury or illness. If you’re taking a medical or disability leave approved by your employer of at least six months, you will be exempt from the annual CE requirement for that year. Indicate the dates of your leave during the annual certification renewal, and submit a current medical report and/or a qualified medical professional’s note.

If a CE exemption is required for more than one year, re-apply for the CE exemption annually and provide an up-to-date medical report and/or a qualified medical professional’s note to qualify for the extended medical or disability leave. Consecutive CE exemptions will be considered on a case-by-case basis.

Other exemptions

All other requests for CE exemptions will be considered on a case-by-case basis.
