CE categories
FP Canada’s CE is organized into three credit categories:
- Financial Planning – CE in this category must be accredited and relate to one or more areas of the FP Canada Standards Council Competency Profiles for CFP certification or QAFP certification. These profiles cover the six fundamental financial planning areas, professional skills, and knowledge of human behaviour as set out in the FP Canada Body of Knowledge. CE on diversity, equity, and inclusion also qualifies in this category.
- Professional Responsibility – CE in this category must directly relate to and demonstrate the application of the professional responsibility expectations for CFP professionals and QAFP professionals, as defined in the FP Canada Standards Council Standards of Professional Responsibility. Professional Responsibility CE must be pre-accredited by FP Canada before it is offered or delivered to CFP professionals or QAFP professionals. Post-delivery accreditation is not available.
- General CE – CE in this category may not need to be accredited by FP Canada to meet CE requirements, but accreditation provides certainty that the activity qualifies.
NOTE: CE previously accredited under the Practice Management or Product Knowledge categories now falls within the General CE category. Practice Management CE covers skills for building client relationships and growing a professional practice, such as business planning, development, networking, or sales, while Product Knowledge covers understanding specific financial services products.
